State of the Tank: (cont.) |
|
We’re still moving a lot of water and would need a sump twice this size to realistically expect complete elimination. But this tower thing does look interesting. This, by the way, is the link to Marc’s Bubble Tower concept that was posted on RC:

Please don’t think I’m becoming one of those techno-heads. While I’m sure there are more conventional ways of accomplishing what I need, some of these devices definitely seem to do the job quicker and keep the numbers a bit more constant so, in this case, I fail to see a down side. Also, I’m not planning to do this all overnight. Each item has to be researched a bit more and that takes time [By the way, if YOU have experience with any of the items mentioned, good OR bad, please feel free to share them with me.]. The bottom line though is that it’s looking more and more apparent that we hobbyists just can’t set up one of these babies and rest on our laurels…even if we set it up correctly! It’s my opinion that, like every other living thing, our reeftanks go through ‘stages’ of life and as they mature, their needs change.
Obviously it’s up to us to provide those needs but the hobby is still so young, there’s still is no clear-cut path in determining what they are. |

So we play around like this and hope we don’t kill everything in the process. It may not keep you young but it sure as heck keeps you alert.
And lastly, I’m not sure there will be much of an update next month, as I would have spent much of it here in Socal. My plan is to track down Ali and spend a day touring his favorite reef haunts like we did a couple years ago. Later on I plan to take a ride up north and visit Atlantis Aquarium also. So if I can manage an August update at all, it will be more like a road report and any real tank information will have to come from Ray.
As for new pics this month, I added a few more to the Growth Section, which should bring everything pretty much up to date. My goal from now on is to update this section twice a year (Jan & June) so it looks like we can all relax for a while. I don’t have anything for the Photo section because of all the behind the tank stuff. But you KNOW I’ll make it up to ya, right? Right.
So I wish everyone a continued happy summer. If, like me, you’re suffering a bit from the reefkeeper’s doldrums, consider yourself normal (note that here, I didn’t say like me). But please keep up your basic husbandry or have a trusted friend do it for you, and when you’re home, try to take a glance at your tank every now and then. Your conscience will most certainly thank you..........See you Soon, Michael |
