State of the Tank: (cont.)
July 2006: Continued

with these last two pieces and take my chances. After that, I think I’m going to close the tank down a while as far as adding ‘SPS’. I don’t have much of a choice, as I’m full anyway.

Now let’s turn to Fish for a moment.

I MAY have some exciting news but I’m not sure, which is why I’m whispering right now. Are you ready? Okay, but you can’t tell anyone just yet. Soon maybe, but not right now because if this turns out to be a false alarm, I wouldn’t want to ruin your day. So do you promise to keep this to yourself until further notice? Really? Okay, here we go:

I THINK MY PSEUDOCHROMIS MAY FINALLY BE DEAD!

Shhhhh! Now, I’m not really positive yet, but I have not seen it since I returned from North Carolina, not even while feeding the tank.  And although it has fooled me before, not sighting it for this long is very unusual.  Maybe, just maybe, the reign of terror may finally be over…which would also mean I could finally introduce a similarly shaped fish or two, such as fairy wrasse, hogfish, firefish, etc., with much less fear of them jumping (or being pushed) from the tank.

What I’ve done was had Ray really stay on the lookout while I’m gone and if he has not sighted the little demon by the time I get back, we plan to

officially declare it dead.  Party invitations will then soon be forthcoming and you may feel free to broadcast the news.  The lesson here is one of due diligence.  Be sure of what you’re putting in your tank BEFORE you do it.  My penance took over 5 years. Yours, if it’s not already too late, was the couple seconds it took to read this.

The only other news this month is that I’m going to be attending my first very MACNA (Marine Aquarium Conference of North America).  This year it will be held in Houston, September 20-22.  If you also plan to attend, make sure you say ‘hello’ and congratulate me on the demise of my Pseudochromis.

Here is this update’s Pic of The Month. prying it off its plug, seems no worse for wear.

Anyway, I doubt if there will be an update next month as I won’t be getting back until the first week of Sept., then leaving again two weeks later for the conference.  But given the way these updates have been put up lately, you probably won’t have missed anything anyway (“Just kidding.  Actually, my webguy has been completely swamped lately”).

So until next time, stay out the California deserts and enjoy your tanks.

P.S.:  Did I mention my Pseudo might be dead?
