"Clams
are one of the reasons I regret not having a sandbed.
With this kind of artwork available to us, how can we
not want as many of these creatures as room would allow
in our tanks! Unfortunately for me however, I have only
these two specimens and because I have no sandbed, they're
up so high in the LR (for stability and light) that the
only way I can enjoy their color is to climb to the top
of the tank, raise the canopy, and look down upon them.
Ahhh, now THAT'S relaxation. Not that I don't do that
from time to time but I do envy reefers whose sandbeds
are populated with several and especially easily viewable
clams. |

I've
had my two for nearly three years. Number 1 is nearly
5" in size while number 2 is about 3". Neither
has grown a heck of a lot in the time I've had them, to
tell the truth. And lately, awhile after these images
were made, they both seem to be in a period of decline.
What I mean is their mantles don't open nearly as fully
as they used to. They are still responsive though so I
think it's due to lack of nutrition rather than a parasite
or disease. I've of course then, ramped up the doses of
phytoplankton recently." |
