"I've
had this "Devil's Hand" for almost three
years. It was perhaps a quarter of the size it is now
(resident nutjob Flame Hawk included for scale). This
coral will also periodically drop a 'finger' and has,
to date, started several a new colonies which have
had mixed success in the tank. Now, according to Borneman
(Aquarium Corals, p.128), if this is a L. pauciforum
it is "highly toxic to stony corals". This
understanably makes me a little uncomfortable because
it looks like a L. pauciforum, so I keep a constant
eye on it, especially when it's "shedding".
So far there have been no problems and it's certainly
far enough from the stonies to keep me from panicing,
but I do try to remove and sell any frags as soon as
possible." |
