| Around the beginning of last spring, a wave of so-called deep water corals began showing up suddenly, both online and in some of the LFS around here. I believe they were from Bali or something. Many reefers, myself included, had never seen anything like them and this coincided perfectly with my newfound desire to attain the unusual and exotic. So what did I do? I jumped on the very first 'deepwater' piece I could find. It came from an LFS. Yeah, was just a plain brown and white specimen but I figured they all were. After all, you live in deep water; what the heck do you need any color for? Now that it's been awhile and I've seen some of the sweet colors of other specimens, I've become pretty upset at myself for reacting so quickly. My piece (either an A. caroliniana or A. susharsonoi) is still 'earth toned'. It has also not grown much yet seems to be in good health. I placed it in a relatively dim part of the tank at first, then moved it to a somewhat brighter area to see what happens. You'll know in the spring. | |||
