State of the Tank: (cont.)
Just had to vent for a moment, that's all. Because, goodness knows if I looked miserable for even a second at the Alley, I would've paid for it until New Year's 2000-Umpty-Eleven. So I'm getting it all out here.

I hope your holiday was a bit more traditional at least. But if not, just think, you could've been with me, watching (and I kid you not, guys) a drunken 200 lb. blonde, whose blouse would ride up over her belly every time she raised her arms, doing the YMCA dance to the Village People classic coming over the loudspeakers...so you know she raised her arms a lot. Feeling better now? I thought so.

As far as the tank is concerned, this was another month that I did a little more work than I would've anticipated but most of it was good so I can't complain... unlike bowling. Overall, the tank has been doing really well. Parameters continue to remain very stable and just about all of the corals (and fish) appear healthy. The bad news was that I finally lost the M. confusa that had been bleaching so badly the last several months.

I feel particularly bad about this since I really believe its demise was due to irritation from a hitchhiking Fungia which I should’ve removed much sooner than I did. The other bad news is that I also lost the Fungia! I had placed it in my refugium with the other two Fungia and one day it began to decline for no discernable reason on my part.

In other Montiporally related news this month, we also had to, again, substantially frag back the maroon monti (Monti Cap #2) because of both size and due to its being stung by its Hydrophora neighbor. As I have previously stated, frags of this particular monti have become very popular in this area so I'm sure this new batch was more than welcomed by the patrons of my LFS.Did a little more spot fragging here and there but nothing that amounted to much.

On the positive side, there are two new frags that were added to the tank this month. Now, before you guys jump all over me because I said I was finished for a while, let me explain. First of all, the demise of the aforementioned confusa left me a good sized piece of real estate to fill, so its not as if I'm crowding the tank any more. And second, both pieces came in unsolicited by me. They were brought to me by Jason, the manager of House of Fins here in Greenwich in exchange for frags of my efflo (more about this later!).

The first frag is the one he'd been trying to get me a couple months ago. If you recall, I'd been searching for a piece of a whitish coral with purple polyps that I'd seen on Reef Central and discovered that at one time Jason had owned it himself and the colony was currently with a local friend of his! But also, if you recall, that friend was in the process of treating his tank for 'red bugs' and that scared me off the piece
