State of the Tank: (cont.) |

after going over a couple of options with one of their technicians, we went with a Sensaphone #1104 by Phonics Inc. This unit has room enough for 4 probes or sensors (we got an extra water bug) and can be programmed to call up to FOUR phone numbers a total of 16X each. Also, in a shocking example of ‘piling on’, they made their temperature probes to actually work in both fresh and saltwater. The upshot is we had this unit on line since the last week of the month and so far it has worked flawlessly.
I would like to thank AES for all of their help regarding this matter. It goes without saying that I will continue to be a loyal customer. Obviously, I will no longer knowingly purchase anything manufactured by Control Products, Inc., and that’s unfortunate because they probably do make good stuff. Perhaps it’s simply a matter of my being ‘old school’ and therefore putting a greater weight on the principles of common sense and responsibility than is normally done today…but I doubt it. Nobody likes to have the feeling that they’re being punk’d and it was clear in my dealings with Jean, that this was a company whose priorities were hiding behind semantics (and quite silly ones at that), rather than pleasing the customer. If I buy an umbrella, I shouldn’t have to ask if it could be used in the rain.

So, if you choose to order from them, all I can say by way of advice is to check carefully to make sure the product really meets your needs. Then maybe check again. I hope it all works out for you. But if it doesn’t, and you’re forced to speak to Jean, refer her to this link before you hang up in total frustration. Oh, and tell her it’s on page 25. That way when she says she can’t find it, you can mention something about her probably having the old update. |

Quite a few changes went on for this being such a short month. I say short because my family and I began our daughter’s summer vacation during the third week, and spent the remainder of the month in North Carolina. This year, everyone must have turned their backs for a moment because while visiting the Outer Banks, I actually got to do some fishing. Here I am with a small cobia . As usual, we will also be spending the first week of July in Carolina before heading back to CT for a couple weeks, during which time I FINALLY expect to do my sump swap. After that, we shall then make our semi-annual trek for good ol’ Los Angeles (which is shaking like a tang with ‘ick’ at the moment!), for the better part of August.
But I must say that I DO look forward to perusing some of the outstanding Southern California reefkeeping haunts again. Not enough to risk sliding into the Pacific with them, but forward enough that I’ll take my chances. |
