State of the Tank: (cont.) |
|
By the way, observing behaviors such as noted above is rapidly becoming my favorite facet of the hobby. Yes, sometimes I feel a little guilty for forsaking my corals a little but I've worked long and hard to get the tank AND myself in a position where I could just sit and watch it without succumbing to the urge to fiddle. And now I can honestly say it was worth every moment. So if at all possible, try and spend some time just watching your tank. Don't think about the chores you've missed or why that coral is a little lighter than before. At least, not right now. Just inhale, exhale, and watch.
Now, you know that feeling you had? THAT'S why we do this!
P.S. : A few days ago, I got a lead on those Olive Anthias I've been looking for. If it turns out the guy's legit, next month I'll mention his name. If it turns out that he's not legit, next month I'll mention his name AND home phone number. |

Remember last month I promised I'd get back to you with the name of those sea urchins I'm using as part of my clean up crew? Well, they're called Lytechinus variegates. Best I can do, sorry. But something pretty cool I discovered about them is that they're decorators! Here's one carrying at least its own |

weight in shells and debris from my tanks' bottom . And here's another shot of what I believe is roe between the urchins spines . By the way, they are very good indeed at algae clean up and, so far, mine haven't bowled over any frags. But clearly two (one mysteriously died) are not enough to cover my tank. Next time I'm out I'll get a couple more. |

All working fine. I may have to tweak the Skimmer up a bit as I've noticed a slight increase in the 'mat like' algae (probably cyano). We also may have to brave open the Sulfur Denitrator for cleaning and replenishment of the aragonite. This will probably mean it'll have to dial itself in again but I really can't see any problems in the interim...except getting the smell out of yard. Or at least, blaming it on the dog.
And THAT, believe it or not, is THAT for the month. I shall now dutifully go back to my toils on the website rewrite as soon as I load up my rod & re...I mean, boot up the proper software. Yes, it's tough being indoors on a day like today, but I understand how important this is to you guys so indoors I shall remain. So until we meet again, calm waters and bent poles...which is techno-slang for something. Bye.
On to June......
