State of the Tank: (cont.) |
|
Actually, this only represents the first three weeks of June '06 as we are currently in North Carolina for a little bit of family, fishing, and general R&R. Drove the entire 525 miles with the wife, 7-year-old daughter, and 11-month-old Chocolate Lab (which is an oxymoron for 'Brain Damaged' 11 month old Chocolate Lab). Since these kind if trips have been made into mostly bad comedy movies, you already know how things turned out so I won't bore you with the details. But we're here, which is itself more than enough testimony with regards to my resolve.
Anyway, because of the vacation, I was extra careful not to freak Ray out by adding new stuff to the tank then taking off on him. But there HAVE been a few changes since last month. See if you can spot them:
If you answered a major fragging of Acro 18, that's one. But then, I kind of promised you THAT was coming. The big change was the removal of three of my five Frogspawns. Yep, I had to finally surrender to the fact that these animals were NOT going to accept the increase in flow brought on by the back Tunzes...at least, not where they were placed. And since there was no place else to put them, I sold 2 1/2 of them and kept 1/2 of one in my auxiliary tank, where, like my big brown froggie, it's doing a whole lot better. So now I'm down to two: One E. divisa |

(wall type) that I've had for several years and E. paradivisa #5. Both ARE affected by the flow but less than the other three so, hopefully, I can at least keep them.
The real estate opened up by the removal of the Frogspawns was impressive but covered in striped mushrooms. We managed to remove one rock in its entirety and get it pretty clean. Then we transplanted Acro 53, a gorgeous but previously hidden piece, into the froggie's place. The other mushroom covered rock is 'load bearing' so we'll have to Joe's Juice it in place. And, as it is mostly vertical, perhaps we can spruce it up with an encrusting monti, chalice, or other lower light loving piece. But that's for later. Right now I'm just happy to finally be addressing this part of the tank, though I DO miss the movement all the Frogspawns brought to the area.
The third change was moving the little yellow Monticap from its rock island amidst all of the Purple Fuzzy Mushrooms. Not only had they gotten a bit too invasive, but also someone offered me a really good deal on the mushroom rock. So we just snipped off the Monti and temporarily put it in the auxiliary tank. And finally, we moved one of my prized orange Pavona maldevenses off the bottom and onto a space of its own...also provided by the removal of the Frogspawns. I cannot tell you how happy I am over this because, while down there, snails and urchins |
