SPS: Acropora #34 (cont.)
the tips have become bright blue again and there is very good polyp extension. My only worry about them concerns my placement. They are lower midlevel; perhaps at the lowest point I've ever put an acro in this tank. I'm hoping that with the recent amount of light added, this won't become an issue. The flow around them is decent and so far adjusted pretty well so I've got my fingers crossed.
Acropora #35 This little colony came as part of a'frag package' I got from Carlos at Xtreme Aquatics last March. Not sure what it is (who is?) but I liked its corallite structure so what the heck. It seems to have adapted pretty well but I realize it's still a bit early to tell. I have it placed in the upper level of the tank in very good flow.
Acropora #36 This frag was sold to me as A. rosaria. I Have three of them in the tank: One from Steve Tyree and the other two are from Xtreme . All three are doing well and are coloring up nicely. The reason I Have three of these, by the way, is because I'm a big believer in redundancy, even when it comes to corals. I just think a few duplicates scattered here and there make a reef (tank)look more natural. And since this species doesn't seem to get huge but is yet very colorful, I thought it would be a good one to spread around.
Acropora #37 Acropora #37 Another oneof the pieces in Xtreme'sfrag pack, this one's was called either an A. loisettae or a'Super Blue” A. tenuis.

It too has been doing well so far and is placed fairly high in the tank so I don't anticipate any problems.
Acropora #38 & 38a Well, if you're a reef board regular, especially if that board is Reef Central, then these frags need no introduction. If you're not, or aren't familiar with them, these are two examples of the much coveted Purple Tortuosa; 'tort' for short. Both came from the well-known propagation house, ORA, though #066 was acquired through an LFS   while #067 came MO from Rob at Coralsandbar. The provenance of this coral is as detailed and varied as the family trees of some May flower descendants so I'm absolutely not going to get into it here.If you're interested in knowing from whence this species came, I'd suggest doing a search on RC. Just enter 'purpletort', and cancel all your plans for the rest of the month.
I prefer not to involve myself in all the mania. I just like'em because they're purty.
Because of their popularity, they are rather difficult to come by without having to sit on a waiting list, which is what I did But just in case one failed, I decided to get two of them. I placed them far apart in the tank but put them up high and in plenty of flow. So far they're doing well, especially #066 which has already 'thickened up' and shown a bit of growth. Both already exhibit the deep purple color for which they're best known and have already become the favorites of a few local reefkeepers.
