Acropora
#47 : In saving one
of the best for one of the last,This
aquacultured frag also came from
my LFS. It was sold to me as a 'real' A.
enchinata. By now, you should know
that regardless of its name, I'll
only acquire pieces I really take
a liking to and this one was no
different. But I also love true
enchinata (see Verons Corals Of
The World) and I know what's
being commonly sold is definitely
not it. Of course, who really knows
if this is either, so I posted
a picture of it on Reef Central
and asked for opinions .Surprise!
Some said it was and some said
it wasn't. Those who said
it wasn't considered it to
be A gomezi. Nevertheless, it caused
a bit of a stir. Unfortunately,
it's a bit too early for
a progress report at this time.
In fact, I hadn't even made
it the big tank when the photo
was taken! It was still in the
refugium getting light acclimated.
But I eventually put it about midway
the tank and have kept pretty close
watch. This is one I could always
move up a little if I had to.
[Update 6/04: This piece has quickly begun to color up,going blue .
I take this as a sign that it's happy with its location.] |

Acropora
#48 No
one is sure what this little
stag is but it looks to be
the same species as was Acro
#32 .
It came from my LFS, is clearly
aquacultured, and though its
color may not be the gaudiest
around, it has some of the
prettiest polyp extension of
any coral in the tank. It has
even grown a bit since introduction
so we've got very high
hopes that this will become
one of our favorites.

Acropora
#49 This
one got in just under the wire.
I know nothing about it other than
the polyps are deep blue. It has
been identified on the boards as
an A. speciosa. |
Cyphastrea decadia
That's
right, yuck it up. But you just wait till this baby grows out. You'll
be begging me for frags. Actually, this is a Tyree LE piece and it already
has done a little growing! All I can tell you about this piece is that
it'll (hopefully) grow into an extremely gnarled, brick red 'stag' that
is very rarely seen in home aquaria and quite eye catching. Per Mr. Tyree's
instructions, I have it in a moderate light, moderate flow area of the
tank and have left it alone since the day I put it in. It obviously has
a ways to go before that eye catching stag look but I've got time.
Then, like I said, you'll be begging me for frags. |
