SPS :Acropora #42 (cont.)
Soon after I got home; I'd say the piece had been in the tank about 10 days, it began to bleach just a little at the tips, somewhat symptomatic of 'light shock'. Not only was this perplexing because it had already been exposed to fairly intense lighting at the LFS but I (well, Ray actually)placed it about midway the tank where the levels were probably LESS than before. Fortunately, as of this writing, the color is finally coming back and there was no die off so apparently, things are going okay. I certainly do hope so as this appears to be a very unusual piece.
Acropora #43 Another Reefer Madness purchase, this colony was advertised as a “Yellow with purple polyped A.austera.” What I got was a colony that indeed had blueish purple polyps, but it came in so bleached I didn't hold out much hope of survival. Amazingly, it has survived and has even shown a little growth, but it's obviously still slow in regaining its original color or ANY for that matter. So we'll just continue to keep a close watch on it and look for any other problems.Up until now there haven't been any, but as it is firmly entrenched as part of the 'Staghorn Jungle', it's probably wise for me to stay vigilant on it's behalf. Sigh.
Acropora #44 & #45 What we have here are two aquacultured colonies of A. horrida although one is clearly been 'paired' with

something else; perhaps A. 'enchinata'. Anyhow, I've always liked the gnarled, old oak-like,growth pattern of this particular species so I though I'd pickup a couple. The 'combo platter' came from Cquarium while the other one came from Blowfish Aquatics. This was my first purchase from either of these vendors and both did a very good job in packing. Apparently, the species itself is NOT the most hardy of shippers however. Both came in with several of their tips broken and a bit lightened so I gave each of them extra time in the Lugols bath before putting them in the tank. I attribute their conditions to be from the obviously rough treatment they got in transit as,again, both were packed well and came from completely different places. It's still too early to predict success here but other than a bit more lightening on the Cquarium piece, they both seem fairly stable.

Acropora #46 This was one of the final pieces I acquired before the update 'deadline' so I can't give you much in the way of a report. I do know that this particular species is sometimes available online as A. loripes. This piece however came from an LFS. I believe it to be wild. Right now it is placed a little higher than midway in the tank. The light there seems pretty good but looking at its structure,I'm a little concerned that the flow may be somewhat lacking. Only time will tell. I literally have no place else in the tank to put it.
