SPS (cont.) |
Unaffected
by the Episode, this coral has been
reinvented more times than Madonna
and has now taken up a much more prominent
place in the tank. I’m very anxious
to see what it’ll do next. By
the way, this
is what it used to look like. |
Acro
#19: This,
the tank’s other monster, is
also still doing well. It made it through
the Episode without any damage and
with the exception of shading out everything below it, has remained problem free.
What’s very cool is to watch the Green Chromis bed down in this piece every
night. Because of the slow shutter speed that must be used, this is the best
shot I can muster .
You can see why I’d hate to have to frag it but I know that day is coming.
Of course then I’ll have to contend with an irritable shoal of sleepy Chromis. |
[UPDATE]: As
of 9/29/03, this coral suddenly began
showing signs of ‘rtn’ .
This is the first major event since
the CS/IO incident and I am completely
at a loss as to the cause of it as
the water parameters remain constant
and well within ideal range. In an
effort to save as much of the coral
as possible, we removed it and gave
it a 15-minute Lugols bath on two successive
days. This seemed to slow the necrosis
down a bit but did not stop it. We
also fragged away the dead and dying
areas and waited another day. When
the situation continued, we sighed, swallowed hard and got out the hammer,
chisel, and hacksaw. The |
|
result is shown here .
My plan was to keep the three ‘frags’ just
in case one (or two) of them didn’t
make it. But to tell you the truth,
I kind of like the way they look, especially
the two larger pieces, so I’ll
probably wind up keeping those two,
if not all three, just where they are.
It’s certainly a lot brighter
on that side of the tank now and I’m
sure, if they could talk, quite a few
corals over there would be thanking
me for doing this. But the Chromis are not too pleased
and it’s very sad to watch them
try to eke out a hiding place in the
remains of what must’ve been
a palace to them. As for me, I’m
going try to put a positive spin on
this: All in all, I think the tank
looks even better. Hopefully, all these
pieces will ‘take’ and
the Chromis will get to enjoy a set
of condos instead of a single dwelling.
And, maybe, just maybe, I’ll
have room now for a brand ne… naaahhh.
So here is a shot of the whole tank
now with Acro #19 fragged down. Let
me know what you think? |
Acro
#20: Total
loss during to CS/IO episode. Very
upsetting, as I liked this one a lot. |
Acro
#21: This
one’s doing fair-to-middlin’.
Due to my neglect, it suffered through
a bit of a cyano problem along the
base but I suppose it has forgiven
me as it seems to be bouncing back
really nicely. It was unaffected by
the Episode. |
And
that about does it for the update
on my already established acros.
But, believe me, |
