Pavona Go!
Still doing all right. I had to frag it down a little last Feb. though. Also
noticed for the first time a few month ago, this thing's got some serious
sweepers! Obviously, I'm paying much closer attention to what I place
nearby it. |
Pocillopora Go!
Sad to report that this gorgeous piece had to be fragged down to just a couple ‘branches’;
not because of the need for space or even because of the CS/IO problem but because
it was literally crawling with majano anemones. They had set up shop deep within
the crevices and multiplied like crazy, stinging the piece and causing tissue
recession from the bottom upwards. I had never seen anything like it. I also
would’ve thought these corals would have a bit more of a defense mechanism
against these things but there must’ve been 50 of them jam-packed in there.
On the good side, the ‘frags’ are doing well, having already begun
to encrust their bases so I’m sure this one will be back. |
Porites Go!
Not surprisingly, this hitchhiker is still doing fine despite the gradual encroachment
from everything around it. Seems to behave almost cordially as it 'apologetically' sidesteps
the more rude corals and winds it way around and through the area not already
occupied. One of my all time favorite freebies. |

Sandalolitha Go!
Still standing guard; still doing fine. Maybe even better than fine as I’ve
noticed some actual growth in the form of a raised ‘bump’ on its
top. Man,
do I ever love this piece! |
NEW! Seriatopora Go!
And more specifically, S. hystrix. Added to the tank about a week before
the Update 'deadline'. I've always wanted one and this
one was a good size (about 4") for the available space. Since it
hasn't been around long enough to comment on, I'll go into
further detail next time. Came from Reefer Maddness. |
Stylophora Go!
Gone. Traded, except for a small frag, to LFS last Feb. Then the frag failed.
Usually I keep two frags of any piece I remove for just this very reason
but this time I didn't. Live and relearn. |
Turbinara Go!
Also gone. Sorry, but I needed the space and this piece was getting shaded.
Hopefully it's now in a much better place. |

On the whole, these guys didn't
suffer quite as badly as their
smaller polyped counterparts during
the CS/IO episode. In fact, there
are even a few new additions. It
seems like my biggest problems
with these corals are (1) finding
them sufficient real estate and
(2) keeping them adequately lit. |
