SPS (cont.)
In any event, like the acros, I will run down my list of montis and their current conditions one at a time. I will also include a few New-To-You specimens that both did and didn't make it.
Montipora Cap #1: This one, of course, came through completely unscathed. In fact, I doubt that either the mismanagement or virulence exists that could ever harm this coral. And as it is now absolutely fused to its base, there is nothing I can do for it even if it DID need help. Therefore I simply watch in amazement as it continues to survive and grow…the very ‘personification’ of just how tough these creatures can be.
Montipora Cap #2: See Montipora capricornis and Zoanthids.
Montipora digitata #1: Pretty much gone now due to Hydnophora encroachment.
Montipora digitata #2: Doing fine. Encroaching. Unaffected by CS/IO incident. By the way, is there ANY other stony coral that comes in as deep of a chocolate brown color as this stuff does?
Montipora efflorescens: This piece is actually doing even better than last time. Moved (again) to lower midtank, its color changed (also again) to a screaming fuchsia-pink. Growth down there is slow however.
Montipora hispidia: Very severe bleaching during the Episode. This was surprising since

I didn’t think anything would affect this coral either. It had grown into a very nice sized colony but had to be fragged way back for any hope of salvage. There is also an encrustation of this coral clear across the tank ,no doubt from where it sat long before, so it’s highly doubtful that I’ll lose the piece entirely.
Montipora peltiformis: Lost entirely during CS/IO episode.
Montipora capricornis and Zoanthids: Two incredible things here: One, it was totally unaffected during the CS/IO episode and two; the Montipora is WINNING this race! I mean, just look at this. I really don’t know now whether I should intervene here or not. Perhaps if I knew if any chemical warfare was going on between the two I could take it into consideration but right now, I am fascinated just to chronicle the struggle.
Pachyseris rugosas Go!
Finally had to take this back to the LFS
because I couldn't find a suitable place for it in the tank. Clearly, it didn't like its dedicated place because it started bleaching a little. Perhaps now that the tank has been rearranged, I might try another one. I do really like them.
